Undefeated Glebe look to continue to roll against a Merivale team that has struggled to find its footing during the fast start of the league. It was a determined Merivale team that took the field on Tuesday under the twilight of the start of the Ottawa fall.
And the renewed determination and last years championship experience was paying off as they held Glebe scoreless while creating chance of their own. Chloe Smart 16's were sharp and surgical in their placement regularly creating opportunities upfield for Merivale.
Glebe poured on the pressure but Merivale goalie Mathilde Brurat was outstanding in turning back chance after chance. Mathilde has been a crowd favourite in all the Merivale games with her acrobatic stops and attacking style daring opponents to score! After 3 quarters it was still 0-0.
Glebe poured on more pressure in the final quarter after a stirring inspirational speech from their coaching team of Harris and Kirgis. Merivale coaches Plummer and Smart also challenged their charges to hang tight and find an opportunity. Alas with only minutes left, leading scorer Kenzie Girgis would not be denied, striking home a goal on a broken short corner for a 1-0 Glebe win.
