Glebe stays undefeated with rookie goaltender start

Brian Lee

Cooper league  undefeated teams Glebe and Free Agents met in the second game of the Tuesday night under the lights.  Glebe was backstopped by first time goalie Abrie Girgis.  The Free Agents were blinding in their white Outaouais uniforms and fluorescent green moustache socks under the coaching leadership of Jenny Lee.

Some early back and forth play left Glebe temporarily short handed dealing with a nice goosegg on Erin McIlroy's forehead.  Margot West scored on a goalmouth scramble to get the Free Agents on the board.  Back and forth play with the teams trading goals saw the score tied 2-2 at half time.

Maddy Zarul scored a nice deflection into the top corner to put the Free agents out front 3-2.  Glebe was not to be denied and Kenzie Girgis drove home a short corner that Free Agents goalie Archambault had no chance on.  Glebe followed up with another goal early in the fourth quarter to make it 4-3.

Free Agents pour on the attack as time wound down with Mackenzie Alexander's nifty intercepts at left mid constantly turning back the Glebe breakout. But it was not to be and Glebe remains undefeated in the Cooper league after the first round of games.

Best line of the night:

Kenzies mom : "Brian have you seen Abrie?"
Brian "She is the goalie!"
