Sydney Bears ended their 2016 AIHL season with a narrow 3-2 loss against Adelaide Adrenaline at Penrith Ice Palace on Sunday 21 August.
In a game that was fairly similar to the previous day's match against Melbourne Mustangs, Nic Kawasaki again scored in the final minute of play in a period. On this occasion, he nailed the goal with 24 seconds to go in the first period to open the scoring for Bears.
There was one major change for the Bears lineup. Young Bears goalie James Downie was given the start for the final game of the season and enjoyed the experience, even when the Adrenaline were pumping. Both goalies kept their net clean and dry in the second period.
In the third period, Adrenaline scored 3 goals in the first 11 minutes before Bears forward Adrian Esposito was rewarded with a goal after frantic efforts in front of the net. This reduced the gap to a goal with 6 minutes to play however Adrenaline held on for a 3-2 win as the Bears failed to equalise.
