Huge shoot-out win for Gens

Huge shoot-out win for Gens

Noel Edey

Diago Coelho sealed the deal as the Gens' fifth shooter.

The Cochrane Generals beat the best team in the north on Dec. 15 to turn around a four-game losing streak.

A shoot-out goal by Diago Coelho lifted the Gens to a 3-2 win over the Sylvan Lake Wranglers, who suffered only their fourth loss of the season.

Gens captain James Quaife scored both the Gens goals in regulation. Nathan Sheriffs assisted on both and Ethan Matiece got the other helper.

Lukas Martens
Lukas Martens was called up from the Jr. C. Gens and was stellar between the pipes, turning away 33 of 35 shots.

The Gens were backstopped by Lukas Martens, who was recruited from the Jr. 'C' Generals when the team was left without one of their regular goalies for the game. He turned away 33 of the 35 shots on net.

The night before in Strathmore, Gens goalie Isaias Maddigan was suspended for three games when he drew an attempt to injury penalty when he hit a Kings player with his blocker. Braydon Yonin was listed on the Sunday roster but was injured.

Nathan Sheriffs scored the Gens lone goal in that 6-1 loss to the Wheatland Kings.

The Wheatland Kings are in town tomorrow for a rare Tuesday night game. The Kings have won two of the three meetings so far this season. It's their first appearance in Cochrane in the regular season.

The puck drops at 8:15 p.m. in Totem One.
