With five wins in the last six games, the Cochrane Generals are one of the hottest teams in the HJHL.

They capped off two wins over the weekend when their snippers lifted the Gens to a 5-4 shootout win over the Medicine Hat Cubs. The night before, they downed the Coaldale Copperheads, 4-3.

RELATED NEWS

The Gens have a firmer grip on fourth in the HJHL south division and are striking out to close the gap on the third-place Wheatland Kings. Key to the move will be a pair of games against the Kings on Dec. 14 in Strathmore and a makeup game here just three days later on Dec. 17.

Against the Cubs, the Gens took a 2-1 lead into the second, and both teams notched goals in the second. The Cubs outscored the Gens in the third, forcing overtime, and the eventual shootout.

It took just two shooters--Cole Whelan and Brendan Thubron--to seal the deal.

Gens Evan Sine and Cobin Housley both notched a goal and assist. Zach Wilkins scored his first of the season. Cole Whelan, who recently joined the Gens from the Winnipeg Blues, scored his first goal in his third game with the club. Diago Coelho and Evan Malcolm each had a pair of assists, and Evan Judge and Ty Barry each had one.

The Gens have a three-game weekend ahead. Friday night, they're in High River before hosting the Okotoks Bisons on Saturday night at 8 p.m. The Medicine Hat Cubs are here for a rematch in a Sunday matinee.
