The Kodiak Melbourne Mustangs have filled their final import spot with the signing of goalie Kevin Nastiuk.
Nastiuk, 33, arrives just in time to qualify for this season’s AIHL final series having played his last overseas season in 17/18 with English club Coventry Blaze.
Nastiuk was born in Edmonton, Canada and was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft as the 146th overall pick.
He played his junior hockey with Medicine Hat Tigers in Alberta and played for several teams in both the AHL and ECHL.
From 2010 to 2017 Nastiuk played in Germany’s top and second tiers lining up for Eisbären Berlin in the DEL and Dresdner Eislöwen in DEL2 before heading to the UK.
Mustangs president John Belic said Nastiuk would be a welcome addition as the team looks to turn around its form after a string of recent losses.
“We are delighted to have secured the services of Kevin for the remainder of the season,” Belic said.
“He’s a high-quality goaltender who had a strong last season in the EIHL and winning his clubs’ MVP award, so there’s a lot to be optimistic about with this latest addition.”
Nastiuk will be available for this weekend’s two home matches against the CBR Brave.
