July 8, 2020, Victoria, BC - Owners of the Saanich Junior Braves have announced plans to rename their hockey team. “The Saanich Junior Braves name is not respectful to our First Nations and does not reflect the valued relationships we hold with local First Nations communities or with our First Nations players. We have decided to rename the team and have started a process to develop a name that upholds our core values. Community, excellence and equality are central to everything we do as a hockey team and we commit to our players, families, fans and the whole community to use the changing of our name as an opportunity to contribute to and amplify positive dialogue about race and equality in Canada,” said Edward Geric and Norm Kelly, team owners. The longstanding Saanich Junior Braves name and logo have been in use since 1967 when the team first joined the Vancouver Island Junior League. More information about the renaming process will be announced in the coming weeks. The team welcomes feedback and questions via email at SaanichJrBHockey@gmail.com.

“Jordan (Neufeld) played his best hockey of the season over the past six weeks,” says Comox Valley Glacier Kings’ Head Coach, Jeff Dubois of the VIJHL Player of the Week (February 17-22). “On top of being our top offensive player, he brings a physical presence and puts in a lot of work on special teams. He was the driving force in our win on Monday over Campbell River and has scored a number of big goals this month.”
