The Alpines (6-17) defeated the Moncton Mets 2-0 Aug. 7 at Kiwanis Park and 5-3 Aug. 8 at David Ring Memorial Field. The Mets (14-12) avenged those losses with a 16-4 victory over the Alpines Sunday in the Port City.
Meanwhile, the Mets edged the league-leading Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders (17-11) 6-5 Aug. 6 at Victoria Park, and the Chatham Miramichi Honda Ironmen (13-11) thumped the Fredericton St. Louis Bar and Grill Royals (13-12) 11-1 Aug. 8 at home.
The Ironmen also swept the Islanders in a doubleheader Sunday in Charlottetown, winning the first game 2-1 and taking the second contest by a 6-2 margin.
The Alpines will visit the Royals Monday at 7:30 p.m. for a make-up game, and Chatham will be in Moncton Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. start. The Royals and Alpines will meet again Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. doubleheader in Saint John, and the Mets and Ironmen will rematch Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Miramichi.
The Ironmen will take on the Alpines for a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. in Saint John to wrap up the regular season.
The Chatham O’Donaghue’s Junior Ironmen staved off elimination with a 7-6 victory over the Saint John Doiron’s Sports Junior Alpines in Game 3 of the best-of-five New Brunswick Junior Baseball League semifinals Aug. 11 at David Ring Memorial Field.
The Alpines took Game 2 by a 10-9 margin Aug. 10 in Miramichi after winning 6-4 in Game 1.
Saint John is fresh off a fourth-place finish at the Baseball Canada 22-and-Under Championships.
Game 4 of the semis goes Monday at 8 p.m. at Ironmen Field. If needed, Game 5 is set for Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Port City.
In the other semifinal, Moncton’s Metro Mudcats lead the Fredericton Tim Hortons Altimax Royals 1-0 after a 9-2 triumph in the series opener Aug. 8 at Royals Field. Game 2 is Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Park, with Game 3 scheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Fredericton.
If needed, Game 4 is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Moncton. The deciding contest is Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the province’s capital, if necessary.
In the intermediate baseball post-season, the KV Red Sox swept the Lancaster Stingrays in two straight games in the best-of-three Southern New Brunswick Baseball League semifinals. The Red Sox prevailed by a 6-1 and 18-6 margin in Games 1 and 2, respectively.
In the other semifinal, the Saint John Mariners lead 1-0 after downing the Metro Mudcats 12-6 in the series opener Aug. 8. Game 2 was slated for Aug. 9, but was postponed to Sunday due to rain.
The Newcastle Mike’s Bar and Grill Cardinals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over their local rivals, the Chatham Head Tigers, in the best-of-seven Miramichi Valley Baseball League semifinals with 11-4 and 7-0 wins in the first two contests. Game 3 is Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Waldo Henderson Memorial Field, followed by Game 4 Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Field.
If needed, Game 5 is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Chatham Head, with the series returning to Newcastle for Game 6 Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The deciding matchup is Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Chatham Head, if required.
In the other series, the Tracadie Aigles lead the Dalhousie McIntyre Refrigeration Dodgers 3-0 following their 1-0 and 12-10 wins in the first two games. The Aigles beat the Dodgers 5-3 Sunday in Game 3. Game 4 will be played Monday at 8 p.m. in Dalhousie.
If necessary, Game 5 is Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Tracadie, with Game 6 on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. in Dalhousie. Game 7 is Aug. 19 at 8 p.m. in Tracadie, if needed.
The Capital City Intermediate Baseball League’s playoffs will begin Tuesday with a single-elimination seeding game between the Fredericton Warehouse Barbershop Astros and Fredericton Ritchie’s Carpet Warehouse White Sox at 6:15 p.m. The winner will face the league-leading Fredericton Launchpad Sports Expos in a best-of-five semifinal, which will kick off Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Royals Field.
The other games in that series are scheduled for Friday at 6:15 p.m., Aug. 19 at 8:30 p.m., Aug. 21 at 6:15 p.m., and Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
The Woodstock Shiretowners will host the Devon Boys Lawn Care Orioles in a best-of-five series starting Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Game 2 is Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Royals Field, with Game 3 Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Woodstock. If needed, Game 4 is Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in Fredericton, and Game 5 is Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Woodstock.
