The Stars aren't dead yet.
Entering their final game of the regular season they can still make the finals with a win and some help.
First, here is a look at the NHSL tie-breaking procedures. We use the same as the NHL.
The big take away here is the first tie-breaker is regulation wins.
Here is a look a the standings with regulation wins indicated:
1. Xtreme - 4-2-0, 8 points (4 regulation wins)
2. Brewers - 4-3-0, 8 points (2 regulation wins)
3. Stars - 2-3-2, 6 points (2 regulation wins)
This means if the Stars win their final game in regulation they would move to eight points - equal with the Xtreme and Brewers.
Enter the regulation wins tie-breaker.
If the Stars win in regulation they would then hope the Brewers LOSE in regulation vs the Xtreme in the following week. That would give the Stars the tie-breaker over the Brewers and see them in the finals.
If they do not win in regulation it's all over. Which begs the question...if the Stars are tied 4-4 late in the third period, do they pull the goalie knowing they can't afford to go to overtime?
It will make for an interesting round. Grab your tickets while you can!
