By Brian Bowman - Selkirk Record
The Selkirk Fishermen have done a lot of great things on the ice in recent years.
They are going to do another great thing, once again, on Sunday - but it has nothing to do with hockey.
Selkirk will be part of the Andrushko Family’s fantastic Christmas Toy Drive to gather new toys for the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg on Sunday against the Arborg Ice Dawgs.
Game time is 3 p.m. It will be the fifth year that the Fishermen have been part of this - that’s really cool.
Monetary donations are also accepted.
“As a family, it’s something we look forward to every year,” said Dayna Andrushko, adding this project has been very well supported over the years. “It’s something we have been doing…I’ll call it our 16th year. We do it because the Children’s Hospital helps out tremendously. It’s a great way to get the community involved.”
Andrushko’s son Kasen, 21, is currently the CRJHL’s leading scorer with the Selkirk Fishermen while the younger son, Karter, 18, is in his second season with the Beausejour Comets.
That’s kind of neat.
The Comets will also host a toy drive on Dec. 15.
