NANAIMO, BC – The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) has announced that its All-Star team will face off against USports programs University of British Columbia and Trinity Western University in January of 2025.The games will be held at the Nanaimo Ice Centre in Nanaimo B.C. on January 3rd and 4th, with the BCIHL All-Stars facing off against the UBC Thunderbirds on the 3rd at 7:15pm, followed by the a familiar foe in the TWU Spartans the following afternoon at 4:30pm.
The UBC Thunderbirds and TWU Spartans play in the Canada West conference in Canadian U SPORTS hockey, but the Spartans have a long history in the BCIHL having competed in the league from 2005 to 2020 before moving to U SPORTS.
In recent seasons, BCIHL clubs have faced off against UBC and TWU, but this will be the first time that an All-Star team has represented the BCIHL against either team.
"We're thrilled to host another exciting event in Nanaimo," says BCIHL President Chris Munshaw, referring to the Tom Harris Showcase featuring SAIT, Concordia and the Korea University Tigers last January.
"UBC and TWU Men's Hockey have been great competition for BCIHL teams over the years, their partnership and participation in events like this has helped our clubs develop and has generated interest in collegiate hockey in communities outside of the Lower Mainland."
This is not the first time a BCIHL All-Star team has faced high-level competition, as in the lead-up to the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship, the BCIHL All-Stars faced Kazakhstan in a tune-up game where Kazakhstan prevailed 2-0 in Langley.
This year's BCIHL All-Star roster will be selected on November 24th. Both games will be broadcast free at
BCIHL.tv and tickets will be available for purchase at the door.
