The BC Intercollegiate Hockey League opens the 2024/25 regular season this weekend with every team in action. SFU hosts the Okanagan Lakers on Friday, the Red Leafs hoping to continue momentum on a rebuild following the divide of the Non-Conference and BCIHL rosters last season. Okanagan is looking to take the final step to becoming a championship contender after a strong 2023/24 season and offseason change at the head coach position. The Lakers defeated the Red Leafs in one pre-season game.
On Vancouver Island, 23/24 finalist UVIC will host the Logan Lake Miners to open their season on Friday after strong pre-season performances against Trinity Western University (USports), Concordia, NAIT and Augustana (ACAC). The Vikes also defeated reigning champs VIU in pre-season play.
The Miners have added significant upgrades this offseason and are hoping to continue development as the BCIHL's most recent expansion team.
Defending champions Vancouver Island University will host Logan Lake on Saturday, after a similarly successful pre-season campaign as UVIC against the same non-conference opponents. The Mariners are expected to compete for a championship again in 2025 but will have to overcome the departure of veteran players Gavin Rauser, Derek Krall and Logan Kurki.
