Week 3: Stingers Battle to First Point in Thrilling 2–2 Draw with Frantic

Week 3: Stingers Battle to First Point in Thrilling 2–2 Draw with Frantic

Brian Lee

The Stingers may have started Week 3 still searching for their first points, but they ended it with a statement. In the second game of their doubleheader, they clawed out a hard-fought 2–2 draw against a fast and skilled Frantic side in a game filled with action, intensity, and impressive defensive stands.

Frantic came out firing, generating early pressure with a dangerous right-side cross that whizzed through the goalmouth untouched. But the Stingers wasted no time responding. Their own counterattack down the right wing nearly found paydirt with a cross into the D that just missed a finishing touch.

Goalkeeper Alyssa Wind was once again a standout for the Stingers, denying two early Frantic penalty corners and standing tall against a flurry of chances. But even she couldn’t stop a blistering strike from guest player Ramneek Dhaliwahl, who converted on a penalty corner to give Frantic the 1–0 lead.

The Stingers answered with their most clinical finish of the day. Lucy Rowan-Legg peppered the Frantic goalie with back-to-back shots, then smartly pulled back the rebound and fed Rose St. Pierre, who buried the equalizer from the side of the net.

The momentum swings continued. Frantic responded almost immediately with Estelle Feron finishing off a sharp right-side attack to reclaim the lead. But the Stingers refused to fade. Valerie L nearly brought them level again with a blast from the top of the circle that sailed just wide.

With the clock ticking down, it looked like the Stingers valiant effort might fall just short. Another burst of pressure from Stingers was rewarded with a goal to tie things at 2–2. Sophie Lewchuk finished a smooth passing play from Ashlyn Christian  giving the Stingers their first point of the season and capping off their strongest performance yet.

Alyssa Wind sealed the result with one more highlight-reel moment, stopping a full-field breakaway by Clara Tyman that could have flipped the result at the last second.
The final whistle blew on a match filled with back-and-forth action, brilliant saves, and creative offense. For the Stingers, it was a well-earned breakthrough. For fans, it was Junior Girls League hockey at its finest.

Final Score:  Frantic 3  Stingers 1
