Despite being short on players and forced to forfeit on paper, Riptide, coached by Olivia Trahan, showed no signs of backing down in a spirited match against Frantic. With help from Stingers reinforcements and an unwavering team effort, Riptide+ stormed back from an early deficit to claim a 2-1 victory on the field, making a bold statement in Week 2.
Frantic, riding high from their earlier win over the Stingers, struck quickly with Clara Tyman finding the net just five minutes in, giving her side an early edge. Riptide+ responded with energy and determination, nearly leveling the score when Chloe came inches from converting a dangerous chance.
Frantic earned a penalty corner shortly after, applying more pressure, but Riptide+ pushed back. A smart run by Emily Toews drew a penalty corner, and moments later, Lucy delivered the equalizer. Timing her run perfectly, she connected on a high cross with a one-time finish that Alyssa got a piece of, but the ball eventually bounced in to level the score at 1-1.
The second half began with Riptide+ on the front foot, generating back-to-back chances that turned into a penalty corner. Julia Bradley pounced on a loose ball from the top of the circle during a scramble and buried the go-ahead goal, giving Riptide+ a 2-1 lead.
Holding the line defensively was Erin Kelly, who anchored the Riptide+ backline with poise and toughness, especially in the closing minutes as Frantic pushed for an equalizer.
Frantic's comeback hopes were dampened when they lost two players in the second half—one to injury and another who had to leave for a hockey commitment—leaving them stretched and vulnerable during the final stretch.
While the official record shows a forfeit, the game on the field told a different story: a gritty comeback, standout individual performances, and a resilient Riptide+ team refusing to quit.
Final score on the field: Riptide+ 2 – Frantic 1.
