Baxter's Mens Slo-pitch: Notice Board

The league is just a couple weeks away from the opening weekend tournament. The schedule for both the opening tournament and regular season are now posted.
With all the changes this year, I just want to lay out a couple of the major points. The first, as I am sure most guys have heard, we will be switching to wood bats for the entire season. If you are interested in purchasing a wood bat to use the only restrictions are it has to be a solid, one-piece wood bat (no composite, two piece bats will be allowed) and it has to be stamped with the word 'softball' somewhere on the bat.
To go along with the wood bat change, we will also be playing with 9 fielders. Teams can bat as many as they want, but there can only be 9 fielders defensively. Also games will be 9 innings in length, or a strictly enforced 1.5 hour time limit. No new innings will start after 1 hr 20min.
Finally, for our opening tournament, we are going to test stealing. This will be a trial run and then the league reps will determine if we want to include it in the regular season. For rules on stealing please ask your team reps.

WOOD BAT LEAGUE VOTE - URGENT!!! |

Hello and Happy New Year to All!! For the last couple years there has been talk about switching to a Wood Bat League so this year we are going to get a league wide vote and majority rules. This way everybody in the league gets a say and it is not left up to the Managers of each team.
Rules for the vote are simple, please send either a "Yes' or 'No' vote to the following email bus.kelownamensslopitch@gmail.com.
You do not need to include your name if you don't want to and all votes need to be received by Tuesday January 24, 2017 at 5:00pm as that is the date of the AGM. Any votes received after that date will not be counted and it is a simply majority that wins.

Season Start-up |

With Spring coming soon our league will be starting up again with our traditional opening season wood bat tournament scheduled for April 10-12 and regular season play scheduled for Friday April 24, 2015.
League fees will be $1,750.00 per team and will include 10 tickets to the year-end banquet. Please have the first instalment of $875.00 paid by April 10 and the remaining $875 paid by May 31, 2015.
Should be another great season with all teams returning!! |

Fundraising Poker Tourney |

Our slo-pitch league is having another poker tourney November 7 at Rustys. Registration starts at 6:30 and cards fly at 7. $50 entry, no re-buys. All are invited to play. Please spread the word as this is not limited to the league, it is open to anyone and everyone interested in playing some poker. |

2014 Champions |

Congratulations to the Cobras for winning the 2014 Baxter's Mens Slo-Pitch Championship. The Cobras and Dirt Squirrels fought hard in the final, with the Cobras going through the entire playoffs without a loss and taking the first game to win the championship. The Cobras had a great season, finishing first in the season and taking the finals for their first title.
It was a great playoffs for all the teams with a lot of exciting and competitive games played. I hope that all the players had a great year, and look forward to seeing all the teams return next year. |

The wind-up banquet will be held on Sunday August 24, 2014 after the finals at Baxter's Bar and Grill again this year. Cocktails at 5:30 and dinner will be served at 6:00, buffet style - roast beef, chicken, potatoes, salads. Ticket prices are $15.00/person (includes meal, taxes and gratutity). 1st Annual Poker Tournament |

We are having the First Annual Baxter's Mens Slo-Pitch Poker Tournament and we are looking for players. The tournament will be held on Saturday July 19, 2014 at Rusty's Steak House. Registration starts at 11:30am, card fly at 12:00pm.
$50 Entry fee get you 2,500 chips (no re-buys) and the top 5 players will be paid in cash prizes up to a total of $2,000.00. There is a maximum 100 players.
Partial proceeds will be going to the Kelowna Kinsman Club to support local minor sports, with the remaining proceeds going back into our league.
If you are interested talk to your team's coach, or Pat Wrighton (Cobras) or Dustin Joslin (Devils) about getting your ticket. Hope to see a full house for a fun afternoon!! |

2013 Final |

Congratulations to the Devils for winning the 2013 Baxter's Mens Slo-Pitch Championship. The Devils and Canadians fought hard in the final, with the Devils going through the entire playoffs without a loss and taking the first game to win the championship.
It was a great playoffs for all the teams with a lot of exciting and competitive games played. All the teams fought hard with the winners decided by just a few runs in each game. I hope that all the players had a great year, and look forward to seeing all the teams return next year. |

Congratulations to the Chiefs for winning the 2012 Baxter's Mens Slo-Pitch Championship. The Chiefs and Canadians fought hard in the final, with the Canadians taking the first game to force a second game. In the end the Canadians could not stop the Chiefs offence and the Chiefs took the final game. It was a great playoffs for all the teams with most of the games coming down to the final inning. I hope that all the players had a great year, and look forward to seeing all the teams return next year. |

Congratulations to the Canadians for winning the 2010 Baxter's Mens Slo-Pitch Championship. The Canadians were able to hold off Rusty's offense to win the first game 23-22 and then again in the second game to win 15-14 to win the championship through the consolation side. It was a great playoffs for all the teams with very exciting and close games played. I hope that all the players had a great year, and look forward to seeing all the teams return next year. |

Player's Choice was able to win the championship through the consolation side and beat the Chiefs twice in to exciting games to win the finals. 2008 Final |

Congratulations to the Canadians who were able to successfully defend their title as the Baxter's Mens Slo-pitch champions. The final was a good example of what two great teams can do as the Devils came up just short after beating the Canadians in the first game, forcing a second and deciding game. The second game was tied until the sixth inning when the Canadians put up seven runs and the Devils could not answer in the top of the seventh. I hope that all the players had a great year, and I look forward to seeing every team return next year. |

With the end of the season rapidly approaching the wind-up banquet has been finalized. From everything I heard people had a great time last year, and it will be the same this year. There will be lots of prizes available for everyone, so come out and have a good time. The wind-up will be on Sunday August 24 at Baxter's Bar & Grill starting at 6:00. The new season is nearly upon us, with only a few weeks to go until the opening tournament. All eight teams are returning for another great year of ball. We will have to see if the Canadians can repeat as champions and whether the Express can go undefeated throughout the regular season again. Head down to Kings Stadium on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons to catch all the action. |

Congratulations to the Canadians, the 2007 Baxter's Mens Slo-Pitch champions. The final was a hard fought battle between two equal teams. The Express took the first game 18-17 in extra innings to force a deciding game. We hope that all the players had fun playing this year, and we look forward to seeing every team return next year. There will be year-end meeting held in the fall to recap the season and to get the input from the teams. We encourage every team to show up with comments on the past season. |
