Former Sydney Ice Dog and alternate captain Shannon McGregor is making his AIHL comeback after leaving in 2015.

McGregor, 25, played for the Dogs debuting in 2008 until 2015, when he joined the army. The defenceman has registered 7 goals and 25 assists for 32 points and 305 penalty minutes in 187 career AIHL games. McGregor registered 7 assists and 127 penalty minutes in 27 games with the Dogs in 2015.

As well as the AIHL, the 185cm and 90kg skater spent two seasons (2010-11, 2011-12) in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) with the Bobcaygeon Bucks, recording 20 points (4 goals, 16 assists) in 51 career games. McGregor helped to lead his team to the postseason during both of these seasons.

The Sydney, Australia native played on Men’s National team in 2014 and 2015 and has won gold at the Under 18 World Junior Championships (D3|A) in 2009 and Under 20 World Junior Championships (D3) in 2010.

McGregor has continued to prove his ability as a strong and physical defenceman and his acquisition will bolster up the Dogs blue line as he joins veterans Andrew White, Daniel Pataky and Tomas Manco. General Manager Jason Juba states that "What you notice immediately about McGregor is his physical presence. He is tough in front of his own net and is a stay at home defenceman that balances out our defensive core”.

His return is welcomed warmly, as he is set to play in the upcoming 2017 AIHL season, beginning April 22^nd at the Macquarie Ice Rink against the Sydney Bears.
