Sydney Ice Dogs forward Cameron Todd is all set to join the AIHL’s 100 game club on Friday night, when he takes on his former team the Sydney Bears in another hotly contested Sydney Battle.
Todd joined the Ice Dogs at the beginning of the year, after spending the previous six seasons with cross town rivals the Sydney Bears.
Todd has appeared in eight games with the Ice Dogs this season, scoring seven points (1 goal and 6 assists), in his previous 91 AIHL games with the Bears, he'd scored 36 goals and registered 46 assists.
At just 23 years of age, Todd has also appeared in 30 games for the national men’s team, recording 41 points (17 goals, 24 assists), most recently winning a silver medal at the IIHF World Championship (D2A) in the Netherlands.
Heading into this weekend, Todd was upbeat at the prospect of the playing his former club in his milestone game.
“I couldn’t think of a better team to play against for my 100th game” said Todd. “I’ll definitely be fired up for that game and I hope the boys get fired up as well.”
Todd joins a strong core of local Ice Dogs players who have also appeared in 100+ AIHL games, a list which includes veteran’s David Dunwoodie, Shannon McGregor, Thomas Manco, Billy Cliff and Scott and Todd Stephenson.
“Adding a guy like Cam to our roster at the start of the season was huge for the club” said Ice Dogs captain Scott Stephenson.
“He brings a tone of international and AIHL experience to our team and adds to the depth of local talent we’re building here at the Ice Dogs.”
The Ice Dogs will recognise Todd and his AIHL milestone at their next home game, which will be on Saturday night at the Macquarie Ice Rink when they host the Adelaide Adrenaline. The last time the two sides met, the Ice Dogs shutout the Adrenaline 4-0 in a physical encounter that saw 85 penalty minutes dished out and a number of players ejected from the game.
