Ice Dogs bring home five points in Melbourne Road Trip
Monday, June 18, 2018 - Submitted by Juno Tsalis

The Sydney Ice Dogs travelled to Melbourne last weekend to face the Mustangs and the Ice in two nail-biting games, taking home five of the six points on offer. The weekend began with a 4-3 regulation win against the Mustangs followed by an impressive comeback in a 4-3 shootout win against the Ice.

The Melbourne Mustangs took the first lead on Saturday, just six minutes into the game followed by another power play goal to round up the first. Three consecutive goals in the second period from Todd Stephenson at 9:32, Geordie Wudrick at 5:07 and Cameron Todd at 4:48 gave the Ice Dogs the lead heading into the final period.

Defenseman Bryan Kolodziejczyk scored in his AIHL debut, three and a half minutes into the third to give the Ice Dogs a 4-2 lead which they were able to maintain until the final minutes, when the Mustangs scored their final goal.

Grant Toulmin led the way with three assists followed by goaltender Curtis Skip who made 33 saves. Geordie Wudrick also left his mark with a goal and two assists in the game.

The Melbourne Ice scored two goals up front on Sunday night to give them the lead at the end of the first. A third goal from the Ice early into the second period was answered by Grant Toulmin, who cut the deficit heading into the third. Bryan Kolodziejczyk scored two goals of his own for Sydney in the final period, sending the game to a shootout.

Goaltender Curtis Skip stopped two of the three shots he faced in the shootout while Geordie Wudrick and Bryan Kolodziejczyk were able to beat goaltender Jaden Pine-Murphy to give Sydney the 4-3 shootout win.
