The Perth Thunder take the win 4-3 over the Newcastle Northstars after a tough game lead to the shootout decider. Landon Oslanski opened the scoring, putting Perth Thunder on the scoreboard first. Rob Haselhurst didn’t want to leave the period with his old club in the lead and just before the end of the period scored a ripper of a goal with Sammy Banga on the assist. The Canadian arrived in the country on Thursday after being announced as Newcastle’s newest import, and is proving to be a force out on the ice. Banga continued to make an impression on the home crowd after taking the Northstars into the lead in the second period with his first AIHL goal. The new addition went on to bag another assist, pulling three points in his debut game. The third period proved to be tough for both teams with the game going goal for goal, after Perth Thunder’s Ben Breault scored early in the third period. After Zane Jones answered back, Oslanski scored again taking the game to shootout. Perth’s goal tender Peter Di Salvo stood tall during the shootout, blocking both Joe Harcharik and Nick Rivait. While Breault and Grandmaison managed to slip past Dayne Davis. The Northstars are back at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium again tomorrow night to take on the Melbourne Ice at 4:00pm. The team will need to dig deep and work hard to ensure a win. |
