Going into the weekend the Newcastle Northstars knew that they had two big games ahead and tough competition especially in Perth Thunder. The first period had end to end hockey and ended in stalemate with neither team being able to capitalise on their chances. The teams seemed to be evenly matched with Perth Thunder only having 9 shots on goal compared to the Northstars 7 in the first period. This deadlock continued into the beginning of the second period until local Shane Southwood was able to put one in the net off a pass from Pat Nadin. Southwood opened the nights scoring but Jonathon Bremner from Perth Thunder answered back just 7 seconds later. The second period ended after Perth Thunder made their intentions clear leading the game 5-1. Zane Jones managed to bag a short-handed goal mid-way through the final twenty minutes but Perth Thunder kept up the intensity throughout and finished the game with 8 goals. The Northstars look forward to their next game at Macquarie Ice Rink against the Sydney Bears on Saturday 16th June at 5:00pm.
