The defending BCIHL Champion Trinity Western University Spartans are excited to announce the signing of two strong leaders to the Spartans family with the additions of forwards Logan Casavant and James Gordon.
Casavant capped off his Junior A career with the SJHL Champion Nipawin Hawks. The creative playmaking forward was tied for fourth on his team in scoring during the regular season with 40 points and then went on a point per game basis in the playoffs as the Hawks captured their first league championship in 28 years.
TWU Head Coach Barret Kropf states, “I am very excited to have Logan join our program. The Hawks have had an incredible season of ups and downs, and throughout the process we feel that Logan has been one of those strong leaders who not only works hard at his craft but takes pride in his outcomes as well. He is a leader on and off the ice, and I am excited to see how he will add to our team culture; as well as seeing how our team culture will give him a bigger platform to lead from!”
In Gordon, the Spartans are drawing on some strong family bloodlines. James’ sister Kayla has been an all star basketball player with the Spartans throughout her career in the University Sport conference. Gordon spent the 2017/18 season with the KIJHL’s 100 Mile House Wranglers, scoring 16 goals and 22 points in 18 games.
“James is a solid forward who brings some strong leadership to our program as well,” adds Kropf. “In talking with his coaches, they spoke at length about the quality guy that he is on the team and in the community! Those are the type of leaders that thrive in our program and so we are happy to be adding another student athlete like James into the mix.”
With the addition of Casavant and Gordon to the recruiting class, the Spartans have now recruited a total of four new players to begin replacing the four whom graduated from last years championship season.
“We are working through a few more details about a couple other announcements as well, and look forward to defending our championship this fall,” states the Head Coach. “We want to keep growing with strong leaders and young men who strive for excellence on the ice and in the classroom. Our 4 recruits check off all the boxes, and will have an impact in our program!”
Trinity Western University will kick off the 2018-19 season with a series of non-conference games against University of British Columbia, the University of Minnesota Gophers, Hamline University, and the Kazakhstan World Junior team.
Regular season play kicks off for the league champions in early October at their home arena, the Langley Events Centre.
