Eastern Washington University Eagles' BCIHL Hockey Club is pleased to announce the hiring of John (JR) Strait as the clubs newest Assistant Coach. John spent several years playing for the Eagles and was a teammate along side Head Coach Jason Greenwell.
John is a native of Spokane, WA and had a long playing career that kicked off with a stint in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He spent some time in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League as well before finishing his career at Eastern as a member of the Eagles. He was a membe of the 2010-2011 Eagles team that finished third at Nationals while playing in the ACHA Divison Two Program before moving to the BCIHL in the following season. Recently John was recognized as a member of the Eagles all decade team when the BCIHL celebrated its tenth anniversary.
"John was a tremendous player with a lot of passion for the game. Adding John to the coaching staff has been a long time coming and I couldn't be happier. I believe his knowledge of the game and his drive to win will be a tremendous asset to our program and I'm looking forward to having him on the bench for the upcoming season," stated coach Greenwell.
The Eagles open camp on September 8th at the EWU Recreation Complex followed by a home and home series with Selkirk College on the 5th and 16th of September.
