Player Signing: Matus Trnka

Player Signing: Matus Trnka

The Adelaide Adrenaline are proud to announce the re-signing of goaltender Matus Trnka for the 2024 season.

At just 19 years old, Matus has already racked up an impressive list of accomplishments including a national championship win with the PHL’s Adelaide Avalanche in 2022 and earned himself a gold medal while representing Australia during the men's U20 at the 2023 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Division III World Championships. He has maintained a consistent save percentage of over 80% throughout his career which began in Slovakia in 2018.

It appears the young goalie has no shortage of energy as he juggled high school and multiple part time jobs to help fund his time in North America when he was offered the opportunity to play for the Ontario Jr Reign in the USPHL. Matus says that playing in North America has contributed immensely to his personal development, both on and off the ice.

“We had trainings almost every day for 60-90 minutes on the ice followed by an off-ice session (workout, yoga, etc.), as well as having the chance to train or play against some highly skilled junior players. I also learned a lot about different cultures as there were guys from different parts of the world on the team.”

Looking at the season ahead, it’s clear that Matus has already got his game face on.

“I feel like I bring a competitive edge to every training session and every game, as I hate to lose,” he says. “I believe that we can achieve even better results with the group of guys we have in Adelaide this season and I can’t wait to play in front of our fans again!”
