The Port Moody Panthers are excited to announce the signing of 2004-born defenseman Ryan Tong for the 2021-22 Pacific Junior Hockey League season.

Tong, a resident of Burnaby, got into five games with the Vancouver North West Hawks U18 AAA this past season and posted one assist.

"I'm excited about playing in Port Moody with the Panthers because they have a long history of developing players and providing a foundation and support to move on to the next level of hockey," Tong said.

Tong spent time with the Burnaby Winter Club Elite 15s in 2019-20 and put up 16 points in 35 games. He looks forward to wearing a Panthers jersey for the season.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity provided to me by (Panthers owner) Mr. (Peter) Meng and Coach (Terry) Morrison," explained Tong. "I just want to come in and play to the best of my abilities and help the team be successful in any way I can."

He is a skilled blueliner who will help with the Panthers transition from the defensive zone to the attacking zone.

"I would describe myself as an offensive defenseman who has soft hands, skates well, and has a good stick. Depending on the situation, I'm able to either lead or join the rush," described Tong.

Tong joins Marcus Olsen and Dong Eun Lee as rookie players committed to the Panthers for the 2021-22 PJHL season.
