New Team on the Block: Sault College Cougars Join OFC

Everett Hanmer

The Ontario Football Conference is thrilled to announce the addition of the Sault College Cougars as the newest team in the conference. The Cougars, representing Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, had their application unanimously approved by the executive board members of the conference. Poised for their inaugural season in the summer of 2025, the team will sport blue and white colours with green as a secondary accent.

This expansion brings the total number of teams in the conference to seven, marking a significant growth for the OFC.

Leading the Cougars in their initial seasons as Head Coach will be Paul Orazietti, Sault College’s Athletic Director and former Associate Head Coach at the University of British Columbia. In a statement, Orazietti emphasized the program's commitment to the community. 'Our goal at Sault College is to invest in sports programs deeply rooted in the local community, and football certainly fits this bill. Sault Ste. Marie boasts incredible local talent for a community of its size, and our hope at the College is to provide our local high school players with the opportunity to pursue both a post-secondary education and a post-secondary football experience while remaining in their hometown or in Northern Ontario.' He also anticipates that the football team will significantly enhance campus life, adding a 'tremendous buzz.'

The Cougars join the St. Clair Saints, affiliated with St. Clair College, and the Quinte Skyhawks, who maintain a relationship with Loyalist College, as the third team in the conference with a strong college connection.

The introduction of the Sault College Cougars also signifies a return to the OFC for the city, recalling the days of the Sault Ste. Marie Storm, which played from 1993-1995.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates on the Sault College Cougars as they prepare for their groundbreaking season in 2025. The OFC community eagerly awaits the energy and spirit the Cougars will bring to the league.
