The 2023 Golden Gate Cup schedule has been posted to the tournament site, along with the competition pools.  This schedule again uses the Competition Committee's 10 team, 3 pool option. This option was the best choice for the available rink time, as it includes 15 pool games between three groups.  Each team will get 3 pool matches, and everyone makes the playoffs.  No consolation brackets will be used due to time on Sunday.  The tournament is scheduled to be done no later than 2:30pm on Sunday, December 4, allowing for flights to be caught back east for players.  

The ten teams were seeded per the current USA Floorball rankings as follows:

#9 San Francisco

Division B
NR North Shore FC
#13 Fresno Forza
#19 US Men's U19

Division C
NR San Diego
NR Menlo Oaks FC
NR USA Raging Floorball Kings

Note: North Shore FC is a Canadian team from Vancouver.  Due to the history of Canadian visiting teams, and in consultation with USA Floorball President Calle Karlsson, it was decided to seed them at the top of Division B.

The two play-in games will be held on Saturday evening following pool competition.  They will be feature the lowest ranked B team and all three C teams.  The losers of these two games are 9th and 10th, with the higher seed taking 9th.  The four quarterfinals will be played Sunday morning, and the four losers will finish 5th through 8th in seed order.  The four winners will play out two games each to finish the tournament.  



The alternate 10 team, 2 pool option was considered but was dismissed as too long, given that in that option 20 pool games are played which would have required games to be 40 minutes apart.  Additionally, two teams would not participate in the bracket and the matches would run to 9:20 on Saturday night if everything was perfect.  Last year at the 2022 GGC, this tournament format was used and Saturday's play was rushed, ran late, and was especially difficult for the referees.

Remember to get your rosters in, and also remember that all players must have a valid USA Floorball membership in order to play!  Captains, please verify this with your players and if needed, refresh your memory on the USA Floorball Tournament Rules which will govern play.
