Eagles Turn Spare Time Into Opportunity, Three Spokane Braves Sign LOI During Delay

Cheney, Wash – The EWU Eagles are pleased to announce the addition of a trio of players who are familiar with the Spokane area to their 2018/19 team.

The Eagles’ expected to host the Selkirk Saints at 2pm but bus troubles caused the team from Canada to arrive to the EWU URC late on Sunday Afternoon. During the delay associate head coach, John Strait, spent time with three players from the Spokane Braves (KJIHL) organization. The extra time meant more opportunity for Strait to speak with the young men and learn about their passion for hockey and share with them the values of the EWU BCIHL program.

John Strait said of the extra time “It allowed us a greater opportunity to chat with these young men at our facility and give them an in depth tour, showcasing what we can offer. Having any time with recruits is special but this was a bonus” and added “Paxton, Trevor and Jason will add depth to our roster for next season, Paxton is an elite scorer in the KIJLH, while Trevor has a high compete level and Jason brings the ability to play on either side of the puck” when asked about their impact next season.

The three Braves, defenseman Jason Hambleton, goaltender Trevor Dilauro, and forward Paxton Malone, the 20-year-old current captain of the Spokane Braves. Malone leads the team in scoring with 44 points over 34 games this season while Dilauro has backstopped the team saving 89.9% of the shots he has faced. Hambleton, a 20-year-old from Kennewick, Washington, that will help build a defense front for the Eagles.

The addition of these three players adds stability to an offseason that will see the team lose the program’s all-time leading scorer in Beau Walker.
