Panthers sign goaltender Mac Roman for 2020-21

The Port Moody Panthers announced that the club has signed goaltender Mac Roman for the 2020-21 season.

"I’m really looking forward to this upcoming season with the Panthers. I grew up in Port Moody and played hockey there up till my first year of midget," said Roman. "When you’re a young kid playing in Port Moody, you watch a lot of Panthers games. It’s a cool feeling knowing I’ll get to wear the Panthers jersey come this fall." 

In 29 games with the Delta Hockey Academy U16 Wild in 2019-20, Roman finished with a record of 10-5-4. He also got into one game with the Panthers as an affiliate, making 43 saves against Mission in an overtime loss on January 18.

"If I was describing my game to someone, a word that would come to mind is battle. Being 6’2” I’m not overly big for a goalie, so one place I make up for that is in my crease," described Roman. "I’m not afraid of sticks in the face and guys crashing the net. When it comes down to it, the puck is my priority and I make sure I do what I can to get it." 

In 2018-19, he played with the Vancouver NE Chiefs in the BC Minor Midget Hockey League and finished with a 4-7-1 record along with a 3.28 goals-against-average. 

Roman, who is an alumnus of the Port Moody Amateur Hockey Association, looks forward to getting off on the right foot in his first season of junior hockey. "My goals are pretty simple. I’m looking to have a great start to the season and run with that as long as possible. I want to jump on every opportunity to improve, and have as much success as we can," he explained.

With today’s signing, Roman is the first player committed to the Panthers for the 2020-21 PJHL season.
