The University of Victoria Vikes has added a pair of experienced forwards for the 2018/19 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season with the signings of Blake Holowaty and Otis Goldman.
Holowaty is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound right winger who joins the Vikes from the KIJHL's Summerland Steam. Last season he recorded 24 goals and 48 points in 36 regular season games. In 2016-17, he captained the Iroquois Falls Eskimos of the NOJHL putting up 15 goals and 25 assists in 50 games. He was also a former Western Hockey League pick of the Moose Jaw Warriors.
“I chose UVic because of its rich history and because Victoria is such an incredible city,” says Holowaty, who will study Engineering.
Goldman is transferring to UVic from NCAA Div. III Castleton University in Vermont, where he spent the past two seasons. A Vancouver, BC native, Goldman played his minor hockey for the Vancouver Thunderbirds and Greater Vancouver Canadians of the BC Major Midget League.
Goldman played three seasons of junior hockey, first with the North Van Wolf Pack of the PJHL before venturing to Ontario. He put up 33 points in 52 regular season games with the OJHL's Hamilton Red Wings before splitting the 2015/16 season between Stouffville and Whitby of the OJHL as well as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians of the NOJHL, totaling 63 points in 52 games.
While he’s looking forward to continuing working towards his economics and business degree, Otis is also excited about becoming a Vike and living in Victoria.
“I’m excited to join the University of Victoria Vikes hockey team and having the opportunity to play college hockey closer to home," he says. “Victoria is a beautiful city and UVic is a great school.”
Training camp for the Vikes opens in September with their preseason and regular season schedules being released soon.
