Trinity Western University goaltender Silas Matthys is the ANYTHING BRANDED Player of the Week for the week ending March 18th.
The fifth-year netminder ended his BCIHL career in the ultimate fashion on Friday night, making 41 saves to net a 4-1 win over Selkirk College in Game Two of the BCIHL Finals as the Spartans won their first ever league championship. Matthys' performance included 22 saves in the first period as the Saints tried to stave off elimination.
The 25-year-old from Wollerau, Switzerland was also key in Game One on Thursday as he made 31 saves in TWU's series opening 5-1 victory over Selkirk.
Matthys was especially good in the Spartans' sweep of the Saints, finishing the series with a 1.00 goals-against-average and an outstanding .972 save percentage. He closes out the 2018 BCIHL playoffs with a 4-0 record, a 1.50 GAA and a .949 SV%.
