North Okanagan Knights defenceman Ethan Matchim is headed to the Alberta Junior Hockey League to play for the Olds Grizzlys this fall.

Matchim will play for head coach/GM Scott Atkinson, who he met as an affiliate player with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks when Atkinson was the head coach/GM there.

“I am incredibly grateful to Scott Atkinson and the Olds Grizzlys Hockey Club for this amazing opportunity,” says Matchim.

Matchim, a Calgary native, only dressed in 18 games this season after dealing with a major injury. He worked hard on his rehab to be ready and was able to make an impact immediately. He put up a goal and eight points after collecting 10 points in 45 games as a rookie the previous season. Matchim also added two goals in five playoff games.

“I was able to develop as a young player which allowed me to better my game so I could have a chance to play at the next level,” says Matchim, who enjoyed playing in the KIJHL. “My time was good with the North Okanagan Knights. I will always appreciate my teammates and all the friendships that I made.”

The Grizzlys have won three AJHL championships since joining the league in 1981. Their three championships came in ‘92, ‘93 and ‘94.
