Steam Hand Posse 4th Straight Loss
The Princeton Posse hosted Summerland Steam January 10th at Princeton Arena. It was the final regular season visit to the Similkameen for Summerland and another unusual Wednesday night match.
Although the Posse out-shot the Steam 16-12 in the first period, there was no scoring. The penalty boxes did get a workout with a total of 8 infractions called. Five of them were against Summerland.
The second period was a 20-minute action packed middle frame. However, most of the action was centred once again on the penalty boxes. At one point a time out was called which was likely to give the statistics department time to massage their hands to prevent fingers from cramping up. There were 18 penalties recorded in the second period totaling 100-minutes which was split evenly between the teams. At one point in the period there were five players from each team jammed into their respective penalty boxes. You read that correctly – ten players off the ice simultaneously.
However, there was also a lot of great hockey played in those 20-minutes that resulted in some scoring. Princeton got on the scoreboard first with a short-handed goal scored by Kole Halvorson at 16:00. Assists went to Ethan Schmor and Drew Carter. The Posse made it 2-0 at 2:47 with a power play goal scored by Tristyn Olsen. Kole Halvorson and Drew Carter earned assists.
The third period was somewhat tamer with little penalty action. Summerland scored their first goal of the game at 16:48 (Ethan Grover from Simon Snyman). Shortly after that the Steam tied the game at 2-all with a power play goal at 14:19. Credit went to Morey Babakaiff with assists going to Sam Jones and Cairo Rogers. With exactly one-minute left in the game, the Steam scored a short-handed goal. (Blake Holowaty from Morey Babakaiff). Princeton pulled their goalie shortly after that but could not capitalize on that move.
Final Score: Summerland 3, Princeton 2. Shots on Goal: Princeton 38, Summerland 36. A total of 146-minutes in penalties were called with 75-minutes worth (16 penalties in total) going to Summerland.
