Posse Have Another 4 Point Weekend
Princeton Posse started December off with back-to-back home games. On Friday, December 1 they hosted Sicamous Eagles at Princeton Arena. This game was the annual Toque Toss Game where fans toss bagged winter hats and mittens on ice when the home team scores their first goal.
Well, that turned out to be a long wait as there was no scoring in the first 40-minutes of play. Princeton had out shot Sicamous 36-19 after two periods of play and if it wasn’t for the incredible saves made by Eagle goalie Zach Wickson, the score could have been far different.
The third period was a penalty-filled 20-minutes sprinkled with moments of great hockey action. A total of 15 infractions were called in that period alone totaling 56-minutes with Princeton collecting 10 of the calls.
However, there was also hockey action and it was at 17:09 when the toques and mittens took flight. Justin Fodchuk got the goal with assistance from Jonathan Lee and Tristyn Olsen. The Posse added another marker with 43.4 seconds left to play. That power play goal was scored by Jonathan Lee. He had help from Drew Carter and Ethan Schmor.
Final Score: Princeton 2, Sicamous 0. Shots on Goal: Princeton 61, Sicamous 30.
The following night, Saturday, December 2, Summerland Steam rolled into Princeton Arena. It was a seesaw battle for the majority of the game with Princeton scoring first at 11:32 on the power play. Credit went to Linden Gove with assistance coming from Kole Halvorson and Chad Kimmie. Summerland tied the game at 4:38 also on the power play. Morey Babakaiff took the point with assists going to Blake Holowaty and Cody Swan.
The second period saw Summerland take the lead at 14:50 (Cairo Rogers from Scott Robinson and Cody Swan). Princeton tied the game at 2-all at 5:24. Tristyn Olsen got the goal. Justin Fodchuk earned an assist.
Probably the biggest news of the night came from the Lucky Puck Toss in the second intermission. The goal is to toss a puck from the stands to land inside a small box that sits at centre ice. There are 100 pucks ‘sold’ per game with half the proceeds going to the Princeton Posse and the other half building up at each home game until it is won. The prize had not been won so far this season and was sitting at a grand total of $666.00. A puck tossed by Princeton Posse team captain Drew Carter’s father Kendal, landed inside the box and stayed there. It was not the first time he has earned the prize with multiple wins recorded last season which thrilled fans and friends alike.
The third period of the game saw Summerland make it a 3-2 game with a goal at 17:43 (Sam Jones from Samuel Gabriel). Princeton tied it again at 8:49 with a marker credited to Mort Johnston. An assist went to Tristyn Olsen. Then Princeton amped it up and took over the last portion of the period scoring a power play goal at 6:47(Ethan Schmor from Kole Halvorson and Drew Carter) and another power play goal at 4:31 (Lane French from Ethan Schmor and Justin Fodchuk). Summerland did pull their goalie for an extra man but that was ineffective.
Final Score: Princeton 5, Summerland 3. Shots on Goal: Summerland 40, Princeton 35.
