Posse Earn Another 2-0 Weekend
Princeton Posse hosted Osoyoos Coyotes November 10 in Princeton Arena. Following a two-minute silence to honour veterans, the game got underway. Princeton scored first at 12:28 of the opening frame. Linden Gove got the marker with help from Drew Carter.
At the 8:35 mark officials delayed the game requesting a pane of Plexiglas be replaced. It was located near the home penalty box and the arena maintenance crew made fast work of the complete replacement taking a total of 3:17 from start to finish. It set a record in Princeton Arena and likely a league-wide one as well.
Shortly after the game resumed, Osoyoos tied it at 6:38 with an unassisted goal by Hunter Johnson.
The second period saw Princeton capitalize on a power play taking the lead at 18:40. The goal was credited to Owen Hart with Justin Fodchuk collecting an assist. As the period wound down, Princeton had a 5 on 3 advantage that became the trend well into the final 20-minutes of action. In fact, by the time the game ended, Princeton had a total of 13 power plays.
In the third period Princeton made it 3-1 with a power play goal scored by Ethan Schmor. He had help from Drew Carter and Chad Kimmie. Late in the game the Coyotes pulled goalie Liam Aitken for an extra man and got their second goal of the night at 1:41 (Carter Shannon from Kaleb Comishin). Although they kept pressuring the Posse net, Osoyoos could not tie the game to force overtime.
Final Score: Princeton 3, Osoyoos 2. Shots on Goal: Osoyoos 48, Princeton 30.
On Sunday, November 12 Princeton hosted Kelowna Chiefs for an afternoon match in Princeton Arena.
The home team scored first at 3:35. The short-handed goal was credited to Kirt Fortney with an assist going to Drew Carter. They added another goal with just 41.1-seconds left in the frame when Princeton’s Lane French picked up a pass in front of the Chief net and popped the puck up into the top of the goal in a lightning fast motion. Assists were handed out to Ethan Schmor and Drew Carter.
The second period saw Kelowna get on the scoreboard at 10:44 (Devin Sutton from Brett Witala). Scoring opportunities existed on both sides of the rink throughout the period and Princeton’s Justin Fodchuk took advantage of one of them at 6:55 while the home team was short-handed. He grabbed a loose puck and raced in on the Chief goal, fired a shot on goalie Max Gaudet who was on his knees. The puck hit a leg pad which slowed it down and caused it to slowly dribble into the net as if in slo-mo.
This was another game where Princeton had several 5-3 opportunities and added another goal with 1:03 left in the period to make it a 4-1 lead. The goal was scored by Justin Fodchuk with assists going to Dawson Wollf and Ethan Schmor.
The third period saw the Kelowna penalty box occupied for most of the 20-minutes of play. In fact, there was at least once when there were four Chiefs sharing the short bench in the box. However, the fewer men on ice seemed to energize the team as Kelowna scored most of their goals in the third. They started at 11:53 (Brett Witala from Jarin Sutton and Devin Sutton) and added another at 10:48 (Brendan Mongey from Devon Baird and Julian Fodor) and tied the game at 4-all with a short-handed goal at 8:43 (Brett Witala from Jarin Sutton and Nathan Christensen).
Princeton took back the lead at 7:27 with a goal scored by Tristyn Olsen. Owen Hart got the assist. And Kelowna powered back with an extra man on ice after pulling their goalie. Kaden Stewart got the tying goal with help from Myles Mattila and Tyler Love which pushed the game into overtime.
With 1:55 left in the 5-minute extra period, Princeton took the win with a goal scored by Chad Kimmie. He was assisted by Justin Fodchuk and Ethan Schmor.
Final Score: Princeton 6, Kelowna 5 OT. Shots on Goal Kelowna 44, Princeton 39.
