Steam Scalds Both Posse Goalies

Princeton Posse hosted Summerland Steam October 22 for a mid-afternoon Sunday game. The home team had just finished a string of road games over the previous two weeks resulting in a four game losing skid.

The home team drew first blood just 45-seconds into the game. Justin Fodchuk got the goal with assists going to Drew Carter and Tristyn Olson. The Steam tied the game at 10:31 when Blake Holowaty took a shot on goal from the side which Posse goalie Bobby Milligan was certain he had stopped with an outstretched leg. The puck bounced off of his heel and into the net. Scott Robinson earned an assist on the play.

The Steam made it 2-1 at 5:33 (Liam McLaren from Sam Jones) and finished the period with another marker with 1:28 on the clock. Gavin Lawrie had just been dumped to the ice in front of the Posse bench, got up and raced onto the Posse net with the puck and scored. Assists went to Lucas Jirousek and Simon Snyman.

In the second period Princeton clawed back with a power play goal at 17:36. Tristyn Olson got the goal with help from Owen Hart and Dawson Wollf. Summerland made it 4-2 with a power play goal of their own at 7:16. Credit went to Cairo Rogers with assists going to Cody Swan and Blake Holowaty.

At 6:55 Princeton was awarded a penalty shot. Tristyn Olsen zoomed in from centre ice, deked to one side but could not get past Steam goalie Matthew Huber.

Princeton switched out goalies going into the third period putting Danyon Lorencz in the game. It didn’t take Summerland long to strike adding their fifth goal at 17:00(Cody Swan from Scott Robinson and Blake Holowaty). They then scored their sixth goal of the game 33-seconds later (Blake Holowaty from Cody Swan and Sam Jones). Summerland’s seventh goal was probably a fluke when Blake Holowaty came out from behind the net to try to score a wrap-around goal. The puck went where it should have and ended up deflected into the net off the back of the leg of the Posse goalie. Princeton did add another goal in the game. It was scored with 1:45 left to play. Justin Fodchuk got the point off a pass from Tristyn Olson.

Final Score: Summerland 7, Princeton 3. Shots on Goal: Summerland 41, Princeton 29. Both teams will meet another seven times during the 2017/18 KIJHL Regular Season.
