US Women gathered in Arlington, Texas for a weekend of competitive floorball at the 2019 Texas Open.
Thanks to Brian Radichel, President of the North Texas Floorball Association, and the enthusiasm of Lisa Angerstig, the US Women yet again registered a team for the very successful annual Texas Open floorball tournament in Arlington, Texas. This was also an effort in preparing for the upcoming World Floorball Championship events in December 2019 and May 2020.
After a night of drills and practices at Floorball Planet, the women participated with great enthusiasm battling competitive teams from all over the USA. The women’s team consisted of a combination of very experienced players, such as Chantelle Voutilainen (Texas), Ester Angerstig (Texas) and Sophia Leuma (Minnesota) but also of promising rookies Madison Laue (Texas) and Lokelani Antonio (Washington), showing extreme talent despite less experience in the field.
Ms. Leuma successfully made her debut as the Captain of the Women’s Under 19 National Team and proved her leadership skills, both on and off the court. Faith Walker (Utah) member of the Women’s U19 National Team was also present, but she unfortunately could not participate due to injuries.
Their goalie, Cassandra Troy (Colorado), did a great job and worked very hard between the goal posts, preventing the opponents from scoring many times. Ms. Troy, Angerstig, Leuma and possibly Laue, are all preparing for the 2020 Women’s Under 19 World Floorball Championships to be held at the prestigious, world-class and one-of-a-kind IFU Arena in Uppsala, Sweden, May 5-10. From North America, Team USA and Team Canada are directly qualified for the event.
If you would like to assist these young talented ladies in their pursuit for excellence at the world stage, please do not hesitate to make a donation via their fundraiser here.
